Why Are Female Anchors Absent from the "Dimanche Sport" Show?

Is it due to a lack of competent female candidates, or is it a choice influenced by a sexist perception of roles in the sports media landscape?

The presence of women in the audiovisual landscape is no longer a topic of debate. Whether it's political, social, cultural, or sports programs, female anchors have, over the years, imposed their style, professionalism, and keen sense of communication. In Europe, for example, women now occupy an essential place in the audiovisual sector, particularly in sports programs, to the point of rivaling and sometimes surpassing renowned male anchors.

In our case, public television has already had talented female sports anchors, some of whom have made a mark on the iconic "Dimanche Sport" show. However, their presence has become almost nonexistent today. In this flagship program, as well as in other sports shows on both public and private channels, women are becoming increasingly rare on screen.

The only exception is a program broadcast on the first national channel, dedicated to individual sports and presented by Thouraya Mejbri. This program is all the more valuable as it highlights athletes capable of flying the country's flag high, whether it's our swimmers or other disciplines that bring hope.

Let's return to "Dimanche Sport". Why is it now exclusively hosted by men? Is it due to a lack of female skills or simply a choice influenced, consciously or unconsciously, by a sexist vision of roles in sports media?

The paradox remains at a time when Tunisian women are present in all areas of sports, but they are surprisingly absent from one of the country's most popular sports programs. How can this inconsistency be justified?

Perhaps it's time for the decision-makers in the audiovisual landscape to reconsider the place of women in sports programs. Not out of complacency, but because Tunisian women have demonstrated, time and time again, that they have all the necessary skills to host, analyze, and enrich a popular program.
