Blind Students to Benefit from "Class Bag" Project and Feel Included in "Year of Reading"

In a move to ensure that blind students are not left out of the "Year of Reading" initiative, the Ministry of Education is adapting the content of the "Class Bag for Family Reading" project to include Braille writing.

Launched as part of the proclamation of 2026 as the "Year of Reading," the "Class Bag" project aims to make reading a daily shared practice between students and their families, while also supporting interactive learning through pedagogical stories designed for primary school students.

During the International Book Fair in Tunis, Sofiane Hadhraoui, Director of School Book Publishing at the Ministry, announced that this initiative will enable blind students to benefit from the wealth of stories available.

Mr. Hadhraoui explained that the distribution will initially cover schools for the blind in Ben Arous, Sousse, Sfax, and Gabès, as well as the specialized section of the El Andalous Primary School in Bizerte.

He added that the experience will be generalized to all blind students across the Republic, including those who have not been able to integrate into schools. This, he explained, is to consecrate the principle of equal opportunities and guarantee the right to education for all.

This initiative, he emphasized, "demonstrates the Ministry's commitment to promoting inclusive education, making books accessible to all students without exception, and making reading a real right and a daily practice for every child."

Mr. Hadhraoui also recalled that 12,000 reading bags, each containing 30 stories, have already been distributed to all primary schools in Tunisia as part of these efforts.
