Tunis Municipality’s Intensive Field Visit in Sijoumi – March 7 2026

Samah Daldoul, head of municipal management for the City of Tunis, carried out an intensive field visit on the morning of Saturday, 7 March 2026, in the Sijoumi district. The tour focused on a concrete action plan aimed at:

  • Improving residents’ daily quality of life
  • Strengthening cleanliness and waste‑management practices
  • Expanding green spaces
  • Supporting social infrastructure and community services

More Green Space

In a statement posted on the municipality’s official Facebook page this evening, officials reported that while inspecting the El Jallouli neighbourhood, Ms. Daldoul identified a vacant lot and stressed the need to develop it into a green “lung” for the area.

  • She tasked the relevant municipal services with accelerating re‑forestation and cleaning of the site.
  • The lot is to be transformed into a public green space that meets the specific needs of the neighbourhood.
  • Residents were urged to protect the area and refrain from damaging vacant land or public property.

The same source noted that Ms. Daldoul listened to local concerns and pledged that the municipality will pursue participatory solutions that respect both the law and the common good.

Second‑hand Shops and Commerce in Mellassine

The visit continued at the municipal market on Rue du Commissaire (Mellassine district) to assess:

  • Cleanliness and street lighting conditions
  • Progress on the renovation of the dedicated second‑hand‑goods area

The goal is to improve working conditions for market traders.

At the artisan village, Ms. Daldoul inspected environmental conditions and infrastructure. She ordered the Department of Cleanliness and Roads to take immediate action in the zone, ensuring a dignified working environment for craftsmen.

Djellaz Cemetery Under Scrutiny

Ms. Daldoul then visited the Djellaz Cemetery, where attention was given to:

  • Rebuilding damaged tombs
  • Cleaning the site after a large tree fell on 15 February 2026, causing significant damage

She instructed cemetery officials to carry out a complete restoration:

  1. Full site cleaning
  2. Pruning of large trees
  3. Repair of damaged graves

Ms. Daldoul reiterated the municipality’s apology to families whose tombs were affected.

Commitment to Ongoing, Participatory Field Visits

The municipality reaffirmed, through the same communiqué, its firm commitment to:

  • Conduct regular field visits across the city
  • Work collaboratively with residents, local officials, and municipal services to achieve a clean, sustainable, and livable Tunis

Nizar Hamdi, the local deputy, the district administrator, and several municipal executives and service heads also participated in the field tour.
