Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy Sets Purchase Price for Electricity Produced from Biogas

The Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy has set the purchase price for electricity produced from biogas projects connected to the national medium-voltage grid, subject to authorization, at 307 millimes per kilowatt-hour (kWh) excluding taxes. This tariff was established by a decree from the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, dated August 29, 2025, and will apply for the entire duration of the contract, as published in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic (JORT). The produced electricity will be purchased exclusively by the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG), in accordance with the standard contract for the sale of electricity from renewable energy projects subject to STEG authorization, approved by the Minister's decree of October 9, 2024. For the purposes of this decree, biogas refers to any organic gas produced:

  • From biomass in a non-hazardous household waste landfill
  • Through methanization in a digester of non-hazardous products or waste The installation includes all equipment and materials installed on one or several sites for the purpose of producing biogas. Applications must be submitted in accordance with the provisions of Article 15 of Government Decree No. 2016-1123 of August 24, 2016, which sets the conditions and modalities for the implementation of renewable energy-based electricity production projects, as amended and completed by Decree No. 2020-105 of February 25, 2020. The quantity of electricity delivered to STEG will be invoiced monthly in Tunisian dinars, based on the fixed purchase price (307 millimes/kWh excluding taxes), in accordance with the provisions of the standard contract for the sale of electricity produced from authorized renewable energy sources.
