When a Country Takes Charge of Its Destiny
When a country decides to take charge of its own destiny, in line with the will of its people and in accordance with the philosophy of its President and the contract of trust and future that it has sealed with its citizens, it has the obligation to exploit all the opportunities offered to it, at the national, regional, and global levels, to promote its development model. This also includes offering its expertise, initiatives, and sense of creativity and imagination to the international community.
Particularly in this current period marked by turmoil and a lack of a reassuring future horizon, especially for countries in crisis or struggling to regain their absolute right to dignity and freedom.
Tunisia's Leadership on the International Stage
Tunisia, since July 25, has successfully regained its position as a pioneer on the international stage and has once again made its voice heard, the voice of reason, peace, and dialogue, at the United Nations tribune. Tunisia has chosen to pave the way for success at the UN, which is facing an increasingly acute crisis, by calling for a revision of the international financial system through the establishment of a new financial governance that breaks with the inherited privileges of the past and treats all member countries on an equal footing.
This means, clearly and simply, ensuring that within the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the United States no longer has veto power, even if they continue to provide 30% of the Fund's budget. Hence the urgent call launched by Tunisia with the aim of carrying out a total reform of the mechanisms that manage the functioning of UN organizations.
A Call for Reform
In Tunisia's speech on the occasion of the 80th session of the UN, we did not simply list the shortcomings and denounce the abuses of certain countries that have no respect for the principles of international law, in a tone that is often sentimental and whose effects evaporate as soon as the speaker returns to their seat in the large hall.
Under the supervision of President Kaïs Saïed and based on his commitment to proposing the most courageous, most audacious, and especially the most realistic and achievable solutions, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, has chosen to produce initiatives that can be applied, provided that the countries that claim to be fond of freedom decide to free themselves from the constraints that have been stifling them for centuries and take the responsibility of shouting a loud "no" in the face of the forces of inertia, reaction, and injustice.
