Israeli Government Approves List of Palestinian Prisoners for Release
The Israeli Ministry of Justice published a list of 250 Palestinian prisoners to be released as part of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, following the Israeli government's approval. The prisoners are expected to be freed in exchange for Israeli citizens being held in Gaza by the Hamas movement.
However, the list does not include several prominent Palestinian leaders whose release was demanded by Hamas, such as:
- Marwan Barghouti, a leader of the Fatah movement
- Ahmad Saadat, Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)
- Hassan Salameh, a senior leader
The Israeli government spokesperson, Chouch Badrossian, had previously confirmed that Marwan Barghouti would not be among those released.
Additionally, Israeli sources revealed that the bodies of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar and his brother Mohammed, who was killed in May, would not be included in the exchange agreement, according to Israeli public radio.
It is worth noting that Hamas had demanded the release of key figures during negotiations, including:
- Marwan Barghouti
- Abdallah Barghouti, a leader of the Hamas movement
- Ibrahim Hamed
- Hassan Salameh
- Abbas al-Sayyed
- Ahmad Saadat
The release of these prisoners is a significant development in the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, and is expected to have a major impact on the ongoing conflict in the region.
