Egypt Announces Grand Egyptian Museum Achieves Global EDGE Advanced Certification for Green Buildings in 2024

Egypt has announced that the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has obtained the global EDGE Advanced certification for green buildings in 2024, officially designating it as the first green museum in Africa and the Middle East.

In a statement, the Egyptian Cabinet specified that this achievement is part of the state's efforts to promote sustainable development in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, by reducing carbon emissions, rationalizing energy and water consumption, and integrating modern technologies into the design and operation of public facilities.

It highlighted that the accreditation of the Grand Egyptian Museum as the first green museum in the region reflects Egypt's willingness to build an integrated civilization model, combining the protection of human heritage and innovation in the fields of sustainability, thus strengthening Egypt's position as a global cultural and tourist destination.

The relevant authorities are continuing their preparations for the official inauguration of the museum next Saturday. Specialized teams are finalizing the preparation of the exhibition halls and developing intelligent lighting systems and interactive presentations. The outdoor spaces overlooking the Pyramids are also being prepared to receive visitors and official delegations in a festive atmosphere that reflects the image of Egyptian civilization.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization. It spans half a million square meters on the Giza Pyramids plateau and houses more than 100,000 artifacts from different eras, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun.
