Introduction of the European Entry/Exit System (EES)
The French Embassy in Tunisia has published an explanatory video on its official Facebook page, dedicated to the new European Entry/Exit System (EES), which was officially implemented on October 12, 2025, throughout the Schengen area.
Objective of the Initiative
This initiative aims to inform Tunisian travelers and, more broadly, third-country nationals about the new procedures for crossing European borders, which are now entirely digitized.
Key Features of the EES
- The EES automatically records biometric data (fingerprints and facial photos), as well as the entry and exit dates of each non-European traveler, replacing the manual passport stamp.
- It applies to Tunisians traveling for tourism, business, or family visits to Schengen countries.
Goals of the Reform
According to the video published by the embassy, this reform aims to:
- Strengthen security
- Facilitate border crossings
- Better control the duration of authorized stays
Information for Travelers
Travelers are invited to inform themselves before their departure on the official European website: http://travel-europe.europa.eu
Next Steps
The EES is a precursor to the implementation of the ETIAS device, expected in 2026, which will require an electronic travel authorization before any departure to Europe.
