Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Rape

Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday, May 15, 2026, for raping a young woman he met in 2018 in Saint-Tropez, southeastern France.
The star broke down in tears upon hearing the verdict from the Draguignan court of assizes, before embracing his wife and mother-in-law. As he appeared in court as a free man, the tribunal did not issue an immediate arrest warrant against him.
After a week of deliberations, the prosecution had requested a 10-year prison sentence against the 41-year-old singer, who enjoys immense popularity in the Arab world. Lamjarred had previously served three months of provisional detention in 2018 in connection with the case. His lawyer, Christian Saint-Palais, declined to comment on the verdict.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court also ordered Lamjarred to pay €30,000 in damages to the plaintiff, as well as €5,000 in lawyer's fees.
