Tunisian Court Refers Notorious Terrorist to Specialized Criminal Chamber
The Specialized Chamber for Terrorism Cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance decided yesterday to refer the notorious terrorist Moez Fezzani, considered highly dangerous and responsible for managing networks of fighters in Libyan training camps since 2013, to the Specialized Criminal Chamber for terrorism cases to be tried for the charges against him.
It is worth noting that the Sudanese authorities handed over Moez Fezzani, a leader of the Daesh terrorist organization, to the Tunisian judicial authorities on December 23, 2016, following international and local arrest warrants issued against him.
Moez Fezzani is considered one of the most dangerous terrorist elements, with his involvement established in numerous terrorist operations on Tunisian territory. The most notable is the terrorist attack on the Bardo Archaeological Museum in March 2015, which killed a significant number of tourists and injured others, and during which a security agent was martyred.
Furthermore, the individual nicknamed Moez Fezzani is also implicated in the terrorist attack that targeted the "Imperial Marhaba" hotel in Sousse in June 2015, approximately three months after the Bardo operation, which claimed the lives of 39 foreign tourists.
His involvement also extends to the attempted explosion of the Habib Bourguiba mausoleum in Monastir on October 30, 2013, as well as several cases related to the recruitment of young people to join the Daesh terrorist organization and their deployment to areas of tension.
The referral of Moez Fezzani to the Specialized Criminal Chamber marks a significant step in the prosecution of terrorism cases in Tunisia, and is expected to lead to a thorough investigation and trial of the accused.
