President Kais Saïed Meets with Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzeri and Economy Minister Samir Abdelhafidh
Date: Yesterday afternoon
Location: Carthage Palace, Tunisia
Participants
- President of the Republic: Kais Saïed
- Head of Government (Prime Minister): Sarra Zaafrani Zenzeri
- Minister of Economy and Planning: Samir Abdelhafidh
Main Topic: Draft of the 2026‑2030 Development Plan
According to an official communiqué from the Presidency, the meeting focused on the pre‑project prepared for the 2026‑2030 Development Plan. President Saïed emphasized that this plan will stem from the will of Tunisian citizens, reflecting their expectations and demands.
“Unlike past practices where plans were imposed by the central authority, the new approach will let the plan emerge from the electoral system of local, regional, district councils and the National Council of Regions and Districts. This system will become the synthesis space for projects proposed directly by citizens.”
The State’s Central Role in Social Sectors
President Saïed highlighted the pivotal role of the state—especially in education, health, transport, and decent housing. He lamented that these sectors have been neglected or even mistreated, pointing to corruption within many public institutions and enterprises, as well as sabotage and devaluation aimed at future sales at token prices.
Right to Dignified Work
The President reiterated the right to work under dignified conditions and with a fair wage. He noted that continuous efforts are underway to turn this natural and constitutional right into reality, despite the numerous challenges faced.
Fair Distribution of Wealth
Finally, President Saïed reaffirmed that equitable wealth distribution is the ultimate goal, based on the conviction that Tunisia possesses all the necessary resources. He criticized past choices that were based on injustice, inequitable orientations, or, worse, the execution of external diktats.
“Numbers and rates are important, but they must be felt by citizens in their daily lives across all regions—not merely announced at conferences or on TV news bulletins.”
