Telecompensation and Payment Trends in Tunisia
As of September 2025, the number of telecompensation operations carried out by bills of exchange has seen a remarkable increase of 160% compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching 3.4 million transactions, representing a total amount of 39.78 billion dinars, according to the "Paiements en chiffres" bulletin published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
Decline in Check Operations
In contrast, the number of operations carried out by checks has decreased by 67.9%, totaling 5.9 million checks, with a total amount of 40.212 billion dinars.
Rejection Rates for Bills of Exchange and Checks
The rejection rate for bills of exchange and checks stands at 10.2% and 2.2%, respectively.
Increase in Fund Transfers and Bank Cards
According to BCT data, fund transfers continue to grow, with a 10.2% increase, reaching 28.1 million operations, with a total amount of 58 billion dinars. The number of bank cards in circulation has also increased by 6.4%, totaling 5.843 million cards.
Evolution of ATMs and Payment Terminals
In contrast, the number of automated teller machines (ATMs) has slightly decreased by 0.5%, totaling 3,290 machines. However, the number of payment terminals (TPE) has increased by 9.2%, reaching 42,800 terminals.
E-Payment and Proximity Payment Trends
E-payment operations have seen a 19% increase, totaling 14.1 million operations, while proximity payment operations have increased by 16.3%, totaling 34.8 million operations, as of September 2025.
Growth in E-Commerce Sites
The number of active e-commerce sites has grown by 2%, reaching 1,148 sites, compared to December 31, 2024.
