Medical Inspection of the Ministry of Health Uncovers Illegal Dental Whitening Centers
The Ministry of Health’s medical inspection carried out control visits in several dental‑whitening centers, revealing a large number of unqualified and illegal premises, according to the inspection director, Dr. Imen Souissi.
Seizures and Immediate Closures
The inspections led to the seizure of products used for unregulated tooth‑whitening and to immediate orders to halt operations at the implicated establishments.
During a telephone interview on Thursday, 12 March 2026, on the Yaoum Saïd program broadcast by Radio Nationale, Dr. Souissi confirmed that dossiers have been forwarded to the judiciary and that legal proceedings have been launched against the offenders. She stressed that the owners of these centers are not physicians and possess only very basic training in the field.
Serious Risks to Public Health
The official warned that the substances used in these unapproved centers are sourced from the black market, posing a major danger to oral health. She highlighted severe risks such as intense gum inflammation and irreversible damage that can lead to tooth loss.
A Strictly Medical Procedure
Dr. Souissi emphasized that tooth whitening is a purely medical activity. She urged victims of these illicit practices to file complaints with the Ministry of Health or through the digital platform “e‑mouaten.”
Reminder: Yesterday, the Ministries of Health and Commerce issued a joint communiqué warning against the hazards of unregulated dental whitening.
