Concerns Over Recurring Traffic Accidents on National Road 7

Several residents of the city of Tabarka have expressed their deep concern and fear over the recurrence of traffic accidents on National Road 7, which connects Tabarka to Tunis. The concerns are particularly focused on the stretch between the village of Aïn Sobh and the intersection leading to the delegation of Bousalem via the "Seven Cheikhs" road, in the governorate of Jendouba.

A Series of Serious Accidents

This anxiety has intensified after a student was involved in a serious road accident on Monday evening. According to a source from the Civil Protection cited by the TAP agency, the young boy was taken to the regional hospital of Tabarka in a critical condition, where he remains hospitalized as of Tuesday morning. This tragedy adds to the death of a young man that occurred about two weeks ago at the level of the Boutrefes bridge, as well as other similar accidents on the same road, particularly in the curves leading to the Melloula border post.

Citizens' Demands

According to consistent testimonies from several residents, the majority of accidents are due to excessive speed, which is not adapted to the state of the road and the rugged topography of the region. The inhabitants are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to put an end to this carnage. They are demanding, in particular, the installation of fixed patrols, automatic control devices (radars), and the implementation of speed bumps, especially in front of urban areas, the Aïn Sobh school, the regional hospital of Tabarka, and the Boutrefes area.

Administrative Response

According to an administrative source, the regional road safety commission of Jendouba received a proposal some time ago to install speed bumps in front of the Aïn Sobh school, the Boutrefes bridge, and the regional hospital. The implementation of these equipment is currently in the final stages of administrative procedures.
