Tunisian Swimmer Habiba Belghith Wins Gold in 100m Breaststroke at African Championships
Habiba Belghith, a Tunisian swimmer, has secured the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke senior women's event on Wednesday at the African Championships of swimming (juniors and seniors) taking place in Oran, Algeria.
Belghith won the event with a time of 1:12.05, outpacing South African Keira Van Heerden (1:13.31) and Mauritian Alecia Kimberley Kok Shun (1:14.52).
This achievement marks the second medal won by Tunisia at these championships, following Youssef Douma's silver medal in the 800m freestyle junior event (8:15.20).
Tunisia is participating in the championships, which will continue until May 10, with a team of nine swimmers, divided between two senior women: Habiba Belghith (50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke) and Kenza Chaachaï (50m and 100m freestyle / 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke / 50m butterfly), and seven junior swimmers (boys and girls): Mohamed Yassine Ben Ajmia (400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle and 200m backstroke), Youssef Douma (400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle and 200m backstroke), Israa Aouam (50m and 100m freestyle and 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke), Ilef Amri (50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke), Ilef Zouaghi (200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle), Zeineb Ben Taher (200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle), and Kmar Derbal (50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke).
