Passersby Captivated by Photographs at Sidi Ben Aïssa Space in Hammamet
The photographs on display at the Sidi Ben Aïssa space in Hammamet seemed to mesmerize passersby. Carefully taken by Sadok Ben Salem, they testify to his passion for the city, capturing its most famous spots, freezing its gulf with its mythical sunset and daily fishing activity.
A Career in Teaching and a Passion for Photography
Presented in various formats, Sadok Ben Salem's photographs attract curious visitors. Scrutinizing them on the walls of the historic Sidi Ben Aïssa building in the city center is like rediscovering the city in a different way. Sadok Ben Salem had a career in teaching before dedicating himself to photography, a passion that was born by chance while handling phones, software, and social networks. "Instants suspendus" (Suspended Moments) is his 2nd solo exhibition, held under the patronage of the ASM (Association for the Preservation of the Medina).
Magnifying the City's Beauty
Through his photographs, the image hunter magnifies the city in a different way, capturing its golden hour, its trees, the quietness of its winter moments, the ramparts of its fort, and what remains of its typical architecture, which still characterizes some old constructions. Engaging in this activity is a way for him to express his love for his hometown perpetually.
Discovering Hidden Gems
In a corner of the ASM space, there is a place taken by the photographer that does not exist in Hammamet. It is a Roman site called "Damous Lahlelfa", located near El Jem. During a visit to the area, he stopped and discovered a whole historical site, visible and equipped with a huge underground area.
Capturing Life Beyond the City
As he wanders, Sadok Ben Salem freezes other places, outside the city, always taming the light. Photographs of the mythical Berber site of Zriba Olya are also on display. Other regions like Takrouna, Hergla, or Cap Bon will likely see Sadok Ben Salem pass through, taking care to suspend moments of life, journeys... and pin them in time.
A Dream to Exhibit Further
"I don't forget the support of the ASM, friends, and acquaintances who encouraged me to pursue this passion. I aspire to exhibit elsewhere soon, in Tunis or Nabeul," says the photographer. Using technology and the internet, he highlights some visible elements in his photographs.
