Significant Increase in High-Quality Seed Collection for 2025-2026 Season
The quantities of superior seeds collected for the 2025-2026 season have recorded a notable increase compared to the previous season, reaching approximately 702 thousand quintals. This reflects the efforts made by all actors in the local high-quality seed production chain, according to a report published by the National Observatory of Agriculture on the evaluation of the 2024-2025 cereal season and preparations for the 2025-2026 season.

- The net production of certified seeds was estimated at 515 thousand quintals, compared to 261 thousand quintals, representing a 97.3% increase, distributed over:
- 460 thousand hectares of durum wheat
- 45 thousand hectares of soft wheat
- 10 thousand hectares of barley
- The estimated needs for certified seeds were 573 thousand quintals, and the needs for barley were 127 thousand quintals
Preparations for the 2025-2026 Cereal Season
In the context of preparations for the 2025-2026 cereal season and considering the recurrence of drought seasons, important measures have been taken to enable farmers to acquire production inputs. The prices of basic chemical fertilizers have been maintained, in accordance with the decision made during the restricted ministerial council on May 20, 2025.
Programmed Areas and Fertilizer Quantities
- The programmed areas for the 2025-2026 cereal season are estimated at approximately 1.145 million hectares, divided between:
- Northwest governorates: 853 thousand hectares
- Central and Southern governorates: 291 thousand hectares
- The programmed areas for irrigated cereals are estimated at 77 thousand hectares for the 2025-2026 season, compared to 80 thousand hectares for the previous season
- The fertilizer program for the 2025-2026 season includes a total quantity of 289 thousand tons of basic chemical fertilizers
- The Tunisian Chemical Group has committed to producing 150 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate at the Gabès plant during the fertilizer distribution season, with the importation of at least 70 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate
Fertilizer Allocation
The operation to supply companies with basic chemical fertilizers began following the working sessions of the Joint Technical Committee. As of the end of September 2025, 38 thousand tons of superphosphate 45, 46 thousand tons of DAP (diammonium phosphate), and 37 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate had been allocated.
