Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) Announces Revision of Foreign Currency Transfer Limits and Terms for Academic Study and Training Abroad

The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) announced on Friday a revision of the limits and terms for foreign currency transfers for academic study and training expenses abroad, in accordance with a new circular.

Key Changes

  • The amount allocated for installation expenses has been increased from 4,000 to 6,000 dinars per academic or school year.
  • The monthly living expenses have been set at 4,000 dinars, up from 3,000 dinars previously.
  • Academic training abroad is now eligible for transfers, whereas it previously required special authorization and was not covered by the old circulars.

Transfer Methods

The BCT specifies that transfers can be made by wire transfer, check, or international payment cards, dedicated to installation and living allowances.

New Guarantees

The circular introduces new guarantees, including:

  • Students can submit a simplified application with provisional documents in the absence of a certificate of enrollment, provided they regularize their situation within three months.
  • In the event of a visa refusal or abandonment of studies, the transferred funds must be recovered within 15 days and returned in dinars within a maximum of 60 days.
