Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture Sees Notable Increase in Demand for Tunisian Olive Oil
The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture has announced a significant rise in import requests for Tunisian olive oil, accounting for over 70% of the applications submitted by local merchants.
Competitive Pricing and Quality Drive Demand
This trend is attributed to the competitive pricing and recognized quality of Tunisian olive oil, according to the marketing official at the ministry. The price of a 16 kg container of Tunisian olive oil destined for the Jordanian market is estimated to be around 80 Jordanian dinars, a level considered attractive by economic operators.
Jordan's Olive Oil Deficit
Jordan, whose annual olive oil production is significantly lower than Tunisia's (which reaches nearly 500,000 tonnes per year, twenty times more), is facing a deficit of around 10,000 tonnes this year. To address this, the ministry has authorized the importation of olive oil from countries members of the International Olive Council, including Tunisia, Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
Import and Pricing Details
According to initial estimates, the imported oil will be sold between 5 and 5.5 dinars per kilo or liter, and between 80 and 85 dinars for a 16 kg container. The ministry has ensured that all imported quantities will undergo strict analysis in Jordanian laboratories to guarantee their compliance with existing quality standards.
