Storm Amy Causes Two Deaths in Northern France
Storm Amy has caused the death of two people on Saturday in northern France, which was hit by violent gusts of wind. In Étretat (Seine-Maritime), a 48-year-old man drowned after entering the water with another swimmer, aged 18, who managed to return to shore. The victim's body was found at low tide, as weather conditions prevented immediate intervention by rescue services, according to local authorities. In the Aisne region, a 25-year-old driver was fatally struck by a falling tree on their vehicle. A passenger was seriously injured and hospitalized, it was reported. Météo-France placed six departments in the north of the country on orange alert for strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 130 km/h. Up to 5,000 homes were also left without electricity in Normandy on Saturday morning, and new power outages were reported in the afternoon due to increasing wind. "By early evening, the activity decreases, but showers persist," Météo-France specified.
