Ministerial Committee Meeting for STEG's 2024-2028 Objectives Contract
The Ministerial Committee responsible for implementing the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company's (STEG) Objectives Contract for the period 2024-2028 held its second meeting on Friday, November 21, under the supervision of the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub. The meeting was attended by the head of the minister's office, Afef Chachi Teyari, STEG's CEO, Faïçal Trifa, as well as representatives from the Government Presidency and the Ministry of Finance, in addition to several officials from the Ministry and the Company.
According to the Ministry's statement, the areas of cooperation between STEG and the World Bank Group for the next five years were reviewed. These areas are centered around a $430 million financing agreement, equivalent to 1.333 billion dinars, aimed at:
- Improving the company's operational and financial performance
- Developing electricity supplies
- Accelerating the execution of renewable energy production projects
These objectives also aim to reduce the cost of subsidies and achieve energy autonomy. In accordance with the same statement, periodic meetings will be held soon to ensure the follow-up of the work program's implementation.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the need to implement the various axes of the program within the set deadlines, thereby ensuring the strengthening of the company's financial, technical, and commercial performance, improving the quality of its services, and reducing energy losses. Furthermore, an improvement in certain indicators was noted, and the continuation of efforts was emphasized to achieve the expected objectives, particularly in terms of governance in the electricity sector.
