Tunisian Pharmacists' Union Announces Cancellation of Third-Party Payment Regime for Ordinary Illnesses

The Tunisian Pharmacists' Union (SPOT) announced in a statement released on Tuesday the cancellation of the decision to stop the third-party payment regime for ordinary illnesses. This cancellation was decided after several meetings with the various stakeholders in the health and pharmaceutical sector to "gather all the favorable conditions for the success of the reforms in this sector," the SPOT emphasized. The union called on all concerned parties to respect their commitments and translate them into actions to save this sector, stressing the importance of introducing the necessary reforms to guarantee citizens' right to access medicines. The union also called on the government presidency, the people's representative assembly, the national council of regions and districts to promote a suitable framework for promoting this sector and including it in the draft finance law for the year 2026, according to the same statement. The recommendations from the meetings held with the ministries of health, social affairs, the national health insurance fund, wholesale drug distributors, and the pharmacists' union will be submitted to the extraordinary general assembly scheduled for October 25, 2025, the statement adds.
