Fire Breaks Out on a Truck in the Hold of an Italian GNV Vessel – Passengers Disembarked in Palma de Mallorca
A fire erupted on Friday aboard a truck stored in the hold of a ship operated by the Italian company Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), prompting the priority evacuation of passengers at the port of Palma de Mallorca, according to the Spanish maritime rescue service.
- Time & location: The incident occurred at approximately 06:30 while the vessel Golden Bridge was cruising about 50 nautical miles off Palma.
- Casualties: No injuries were reported among the 126 passengers and 46 crew members on board.
The ferry docked at Palma’s port around 09:30 local time, roughly three hours after the alarm was raised. By the time authorities arrived, the fire had already been contained, although smoke was still visible emanating from the truck parked in the hold.

The maritime rescue coordination centre, overseen by the Palma Maritime Captaincy, deployed:

- One helicopter
- Emergency ambulances
- Palma fire‑fighters
- Guardia Civil officers
- Tugboats
Context
This is the second fire in two days involving vessels from the same operator. The Golden Bridge had been assigned to the Barcelona–Palma de Mallorca route as a replacement for the regular ferry after a similar incident the previous day.
