Displacement in Lebanon Swells to Around Half a Million as Bombings Intensify

The number of people displaced in Lebanon has risen to about 500,000, the majority coming from the southern suburbs of Beirut and the south of the country, as the bombings carried out by the occupying forces intensify and spread.

Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Hanine El Sayed said that the ministry is working to meet shelter needs. She added, however, that aid has not yet reached all victims, stressing that the extreme congestion on the roads hampers access to reception centres and complicates the delivery of assistance.

She revealed that her services have so far managed to cover the needs of 70 % of the displaced, while emphasizing that the situation demands doubled efforts to take care of every case, especially as the flow of people fleeing the South shows no sign of abating.

Two days ago, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called for an acceleration of the humanitarian response. He warned firmly against any exploitation or aggression toward the displaced, describing them as “victims of policies they did not shape.”

Salam characterized the current period as “a difficult moment for our country, after tens of thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes and villages.”

At the same time, border posts are recording a notable increase in the number of Syrian nationals residing in Lebanon who are returning to their country. Border teams are on standby 24 hours a day to facilitate crossing procedures.

Reminder: Two days ago, the Zionist army ordered all residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately toward the north of the Litani River. This escalation, which began last Monday, is part of the war waged by the Zionist entity, in cooperation with the United States, against Iran since last Saturday.
