Sousse Municipality Launches Night‑time Crackdown on Illegal Second‑Hand Clothing Vendors

The municipal services of Sousse, together with officers from the regional municipal police brigade and the Sousse‑Ville municipal police station, carried out a coordinated operation on the night of Thursday‑Friday. The campaign targeted the illegal trade of second‑hand clothing (“fripes”) being sold outside the walls of the Sunday market, specifically at the nearby crossroads.

In an interview with Mosaïque FM, Mourad Ben Salem, Secretary‑General of the Sousse municipality, explained that the interventions aim to eliminate anarchic street installations in line with directives from the regional governor. The actions focused on the neighborhoods of Bab Jebli, Rue de France, and the old town (medina). Ben Salem also confirmed that similar campaigns will continue in other parts of the city.

“We are committed to restoring order in our public spaces and protecting legitimate market activities,” Ben Salem said.
