Minister of Youth and Sports Announces Installation of Seats at Sousse Olympic Stadium to Begin in March 2026
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sadok Mourali, has announced that the installation of seats at the Sousse Olympic Stadium is expected to begin in March 2026. This project, which is in its final stages of bidding, aims to ensure the stadium is fully prepared to host continental and international competitions.
Meeting to Discuss Projects in Sousse Governorate
During a working session dedicated to monitoring projects in the Sousse governorate, attended by Governor Sofiane Tenfouri and President of Étoile Sportive du Sahel, Fouad Kacem, the Minister specified that the municipality plans to renovate the main stadium pitch with hybrid grass, a first experience in Tunisia. The annexed field will retain natural grass.
Security Measures and Financial Support for Clubs
As part of security measures, the Ministry has decided to immediately and temporarily close the Sousse Olympic Hall, following technical reports indicating risks related to the locker rooms. Two other halls, "Swiss" and "Al-Awinate", will be temporarily made available to sports associations to ensure the continuity of their activities.
On the financial side, the Minister committed to accelerating the granting of the subsidy intended for Étoile Sportive du Sahel, as soon as the legal formalities are completed, including the holding of the general assembly evaluating the previous sports season, in order to support the club in its financial difficulties.
Development of Regional Infrastructure and Youth
The session also reported on the progress of 14 sports projects and 13 youth projects in the region, including the development of fields in Sidi El Hani and El-Knayes, the renovation of pitches in El-Zawiya and El-Qalaa Sghira, as well as the rehabilitation of the El-Awinate rugby stadium integrated into the 2026 development plan.
In the youth sector, the transformation work of the Bouficha youth house into a "second-generation" establishment has begun, in parallel with development projects in the Riyad and Kandar neighborhoods and the Sousse youth complex. The land issue for the creation of the "Sousse Jawhara" youth house has also been resolved. Finally, the En-Nqer youth club in El-Qalaa Sghira will reopen after several years of closure, offering a new space for supervision and support for local talents.
