Large Quantity of Frozen, Unfit-for-Consumption Livers Seized in Sousse

Enhanced Food Safety Controls Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

A significant quantity of frozen, unfit-for-consumption livers was seized in the city of Sousse as part of efforts to strengthen food safety controls in the run-up to Eid Al-Adha.

According to Souheil Ben Mohamed, a veterinary inspector at the National Food Safety Security Agency (INSSPA), this operation is part of ongoing surveillance efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of products intended for consumption.

During an appearance on Jawhara FM on Tuesday, the official stated that the seized products were imported via the port before being distributed to markets with the intention of being sold ahead of the holidays, capitalizing on the surge in demand.

He clarified that these products were stored in conditions that failed to meet existing sanitary standards, rendering them unfit for consumption. Their use poses a direct risk of food poisoning.

Food safety authorities are urging increased vigilance and adherence to food safety standards to prevent any attempts to market products that could put consumers' health at risk.
