Olive Harvest Sees 10% Increase in Sousse Region
The Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development in Sousse, Nejib El Fehel, confirmed that the olive harvest has recorded a 10% increase compared to last year's harvest, reaching approximately 145,000 tonnes (equivalent to 32,000 tonnes of oil).
In a statement made today to "Jawhara FM", he recalled the recent circular published by the Minister of Agriculture to ensure the success and smooth operation of the olive harvesting season.
He emphasized the importance of labor and the method of harvesting and packaging olives in ventilated crates to ensure the production of high-quality oils.
The Regional Commissioner also stressed the need to raise awareness about the use of olive pomace as fertilizer and added that the oil storage capacity in the region is sufficient to absorb the harvest (with a storage capacity of 40,000 tonnes).
