Thirty-Seven Civil Society Organizations Call for Immediate Release of Flotilla Members
Thirty-seven civil society organizations called on Sunday for the immediate release of all members of the Soumoud Flotilla, particularly Tunisians, who are being arbitrarily detained by Zionist forces, demanding their safe return. These organizations, including the Tunisian General Labor Union, the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, and Amnesty International, emphasized that any harm to the activists' right to a safe return constitutes a violation of international law.
While calling on human rights organizations and humanitarian institutions to pressure the Zionist entity to cease its attacks on activists, the signatories invited the international community and governments to assume their legal and moral responsibilities to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and to act immediately to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, in addition to supporting the flotilla, which includes participants from more than 44 nationalities.
The organizations firmly condemned the illegal interception of the Soumoud Flotilla, emphasizing that it is a violation targeting a peaceful humanitarian initiative conveying a message of support and aid to the people of Gaza. This interception violates international law and endangers the safety of the flotilla members.
It is worth noting that several released detainees from the Soumoud Flotilla reported that Tunisian activists had been victims of severe assaults. Their testimonies, published by international media and on the official page of the Maghrebi Flotilla, unanimously affirmed that the treatment of detainees from the Maghreb, particularly Tunisia, was brutal and inhumane.
Tunisians participating in the flotilla who are still detained are continuing their unlimited hunger strike since the night of Thursday, October 3.
