The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) announced on Tuesday, 24 February 2026 that temporary interruptions of drinking‑water distribution will affect several districts of Tunis. The outage is caused by repair work on the main 1,400 mm pipeline located at Place des Martyrs.
Affected Areas
- Jebel Ouest (including the industrial zone)
- Bir M’cherga (including the water‑treatment station and its adjacent industrial zone)
Timeline of the Interruption
- Start time: 08:00 a.m. (local time)
- Expected gradual resumption: from 22:00 p.m. the same day, once the pipe is fully repaired.
What SONEDE Is Doing
SONEDE confirmed that its technical teams are fully mobilised to complete the repairs as quickly as possible. Water supply will be restored progressively throughout the evening, beginning at 10 p.m.
Recommendations for Residents and Businesses
- Plan ahead: store enough water for essential needs.
- Stay informed: follow updates issued by SONEDE to minimise inconvenience.
“We are working around the clock to finish the works promptly and ensure a safe, reliable water supply for all affected neighborhoods,” said a SONEDE spokesperson.
