National Council of Regions and Districts Prepares for Plenary Session on Renewable Energy Projects
The National Council of Regions and Districts is set to hold a plenary session on May 13 to examine and approve five draft laws related to concession agreements for the production of electricity from photovoltaic power plants in the governorates of Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa, and Gabès. The projects are specifically located in the towns of El Khobna, Mezzouna (Sidi Bouzid), El Ksar, Segdoud (Gafsa), and Menzel Habib (Gabès).
These projects are part of the national strategy to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and increase the production of electricity from renewable sources. In this context, the Council organized a study day on Thursday with experts in engineering and energy to delve deeper into the technical and legislative aspects of these files.
On this occasion, the President of the Council, Imed Derbali, emphasized that these projects are part of the process of achieving energy sovereignty, attracting investments, and regional development. He stressed the need to provide a legislative framework adapted to the energy transition to ensure a balance between encouraging private initiative and preserving national interests.
According to him, Tunisia has a promising solar potential that can strengthen energy security and reduce energy dependence. These projects offer a real opportunity to reinforce regional development, create wealth, and new jobs in the interior regions.
The Investment and International Cooperation Commission within the Council recently conducted a series of hearings involving the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the State Secretariat for Energy Transition, the Ministry of Environment, and representatives of the business organization "CONECT" as part of the examination of draft laws related to concession agreements for the production of electricity from photovoltaic power plants.
