Tourism Minister Visits Gafsa Governorate, Announces New Economic Dynamic

During a field visit to the Gafsa Governorate, Tourism Minister Sofiane Tekaya set the tone for a new economic dynamic in the region. His announced goal is to boost investment, value local heritage, and attract a new clientele. This was achieved during a working session held at the governorate's headquarters to follow up on the repercussions of the "Tourism and Handicraft Days - 'Come to Gafsa'" event.

According to a ministry statement, this event allowed for the evaluation of the progress of major projects programmed in the region. However, it also instilled a genuine economic dynamic in the region, acting as an accelerator for tourism and handicraft investments. The minister, according to the same source, emphasized the urgency of mobilizing local youth around these two vital sectors: tourism and handicrafts.

To achieve this, he aimed to simplify the procedures for accessing aid and financial benefits. He also highlighted the importance of streamlining administrative procedures to remove obstacles to creation and ensuring active guidance for project leaders, startups, and community-based enterprises in the handicraft sector.

Innovation, Hotel Expansion, and New Circuits

To keep visitors in Gafsa for as long as possible, the ministry encouraged the creation of integrated regional tourist circuits. This was done while taking advantage of a strengthening of local reception capacity, through pilot trips that have already been launched in close coordination with travel agencies. The ultimate goal, he hinted, is to integrate Gafsa durably into national tourist circuits.

During his visit, the minister also visited the Gafsa Center for Design and Innovation in Handicrafts. This center stands out for its key role in modernizing traditional products and strengthening artisans' skills, particularly in terms of marketing and export. On this occasion, an exhibition showcased the latest creations from the center's training programs.

New Hotel Inaugurated

In conclusion to his visit, Sofiane Tekaya inaugurated a new hotel alongside the governor of the region. This infrastructure represents a major qualitative contribution to the local tourist landscape and symbolizes the growing confidence of investors in the region's potential.
