National Food Safety Authority Seizes Large Quantities of Unfit Food Products

The president of the National Food Safety Authority (ONSSA), Mohamed Rabhi, announced on Monday that "since the beginning of December, 1,400 pieces of frozen pastries unfit for consumption have been seized, in addition to over 46 tons of food products, during control campaigns conducted in preparation for the New Year's celebrations."

Rabhi added, during his intervention on Jawhara FM, that "more than 1.6 tons of frozen beef liver, placed in trash bags and transported by ordinary means for export and smuggling, have also been seized." Rabhi emphasized that "establishments open to the public are subject to strict surveillance and that a large part of the products unfit for consumption are seized and destroyed, considering these products as time bombs."

Rabhi indicated that "the number of economic controllers is around 500," specifying that "the Authority will open a competition for the recruitment of 90 economic controllers to strengthen efforts." Rabhi affirmed that "there will be analysis laboratories under the Authority's jurisdiction before the end of the year, in addition to a reference laboratory of excellent quality in terms of equipment."
