SOS Children's Village in Siliana to be Rebuilt

The director of the SOS Children's Village in Siliana, Atef Labbadi, announced that the call for tenders for the reconstruction project of the village will be launched soon, specifying that the work is expected to start in December, once the technical studies are finalized.

Project Details

The project, estimated to cost 7 million dinars, includes:

  • The construction of eight integrated family houses
  • The development of green spaces
  • The creation of club rooms and a multipurpose room As of now, 5 million dinars have been collected, and additional contributions are expected from economic actors and civil society to make the site a model for childcare, according to the same source.

Social and Symbolic Significance

Labbadi emphasized the symbolic and social significance of the project, recalling that the SOS Village welcomes children without family support from Siliana and other regions. The Siliana children's village, created 44 years ago, was evacuated two years ago following a report from the civil protection concluding that its buildings were dangerously outdated. The dismantled village housed 32 children, a home for five girls, another for five boys, as well as about forty young people and 500 children being followed in their natural families.
