Sfax Municipality Announces Ban on Unauthorized Sidewalk Occupation
The municipality of Sfax announced on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, a ban on any occupation of sidewalks without prior authorization, warning offenders of legal sanctions. This decision comes after the observation of multiple infractions and the non-compliance with municipal authorizations granted for the temporary occupation of the public road domain. The objective of this measure is to ensure the fluidity of traffic and preserve the priority of pedestrians. It concerns businesses open to the public, including shops, cafes, restaurants, and other establishments that use sidewalks. The municipality recalled the obligation to strictly respect the spaces defined in the issued authorizations. It demanded the immediate removal of any installation, barrier, table, chair, equipment, or merchandise placed outside the authorized areas and likely to obstruct the passage of pedestrians or road users. Additionally, the municipality invited establishment owners to regularize their situation by obtaining the necessary authorizations and paying the required fees before Friday, October 10, 2025. Finally, it warned that all applicable legal measures will be enforced against offenders.
