The Dar El Amal association, dedicated to fighting cancer in Sfax, received a new, highly developed mammography machine on Tuesday as part of a Japanese donation aimed at supporting breast cancer screening efforts in the region.
Ceremony and Donation
The ceremony took place in the presence of Japanese Ambassador Osuga Takeshi, the Regional Director of Health in Sfax, and representatives from the association. According to Moncef Frikha, President of the association, this marks the third Japanese donation to the association.
Impact and Achievements
Since receiving the first mammography machine in 2004, the association has conducted approximately 70,000 breast cancer screenings for women over 45, resulting in the detection of around 400 cases. In addition to breast cancer screening, the association has also been performing colonoscopies for the past three years to screen for colon cancer in men and women aged 45 and above.
Ongoing Efforts
The association is also organizing continuous training sessions for medical and paramedical staff, as well as awareness campaigns in Sfax and neighboring regions to emphasize the importance of early detection. These efforts underscore the association's commitment to combating cancer and promoting public health in the region.
