Sfax Hosts Second Preparatory Meeting for Scientific Days Focused on Transforming Region into Sustainable Investment Hub
This weekend, the Sfax governorate will welcome the second preparatory meeting for the scientific days dedicated to transforming the region into a sustainable investment hub, with a particular emphasis on medical tourism.
Organized under the patronage of the President of the Assembly of Representatives of the People, Ibrahim Bouderbala, and in coordination with regional authorities, this initiative aims to mobilize institutional, academic, and economic actors around a shared vision of development.
In a statement to Mosaique Fm, Deputy Moez Barakallah, one of the project initiators, noted that these days constitute a first at the national level. They bring together, within the framework of seven thematic workshops, representatives from Parliament, central and regional administrations, national organizations, universities, researchers, and civil society actors.
The discussions will focus on health, education, finance, strategic planning, technology, and tourism. They aim to establish a scientific diagnosis of existing legislative frameworks and to outline a comprehensive strategic vision, articulated around concrete programs, from the local to the central level.
The stated goal is to emerge with a first roadmap to position Sfax as a sustainable investment hub, particularly in the field of medical tourism. The discussions are expected to yield operational reform proposals that will be submitted to competent authorities to accelerate regional development dynamics.
The organizers also aim to establish a follow-up mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of recommendations, while strengthening the region's attractiveness as a regional hub in the healthcare and investment sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim Bouderbala praised Sfax's potential, describing it as a "model in terms of human capital," highlighting the quality of its skills and human resources. He noted that the region's medical capabilities and existing infrastructure are major assets for the development of medical tourism, a sector experiencing strong growth internationally.
The President of Parliament also emphasized the central role of the legislative institution in adapting the legal framework and strengthening government action, particularly through the acceleration of the publication of implementing texts and the revision of the public procurement system.
Reiterating that Sfax can play a driving role in economic relaunch, he called for strategic choices that would optimize economic returns at the national level, from north to south of the country.
