Six Local Council Members in Sfax Governorate Suspend Participation in Protest
Sfax, Tunisia - May 2024
Six members of the local council in the Sfax governorate have decided to suspend their participation in council activities and all meetings and sessions until the end of May as a sign of protest against the actions of the council president and his management style.
In a statement, the signing council members explained that this decision follows what they describe as "irresponsible behaviors and attitudes" by the council president during a working meeting held today at the delegation's headquarters.
The statement adds that the current management of the local council has deteriorated the working climate and no longer guarantees the minimum respect and cooperation necessary to serve the interest of the region and its inhabitants in Sakiet Eddaïer.
The council members who have decided to boycott council activities represent the localities of Soltania, Sebaï, Khairia, Hay Bourguiba, and Badrana, as well as the representative of people with special needs.
This move is a significant development in the local governance of Sfax, highlighting the tensions between the council members and the president. The consequences of this boycott will be closely watched, particularly in terms of the impact on the region's development and the well-being of its inhabitants.
