Seizure of Unfit Food Products
Approximately 4523 kg of food products unfit for consumption were seized in various regions of the country by mixed control teams comprising agents from the National Institute for Food Safety (INSSPA), trade services, the National Guard, police, and municipal police.
In a statement published on Monday on its official page, the Institute indicated that around 160 kg of frozen food products were seized in Tunis. These products included white meat, fish, seafood, puff pastry, frozen vegetables, and composed salads. They were stored in a malfunctioning freezer.
In the Kef governorate, over 3200 kg of rotten or damaged fruits and vegetables - including pumpkins, apples, tomatoes, lemons, and grapes - exposed at the wholesale fruit and vegetable market, were confiscated.
In Jendouba, control operations resulted in the seizure of 46 kg of frozen white meat stored in poor conditions, in addition to 480 kg of margarine and 20 kg of butter stored without refrigeration in a wholesale food sales company, in violation of conservation standards.
In the Sousse governorate, seized products included red and white meat, sheep heads, seafood, damaged fruits and vegetables, cheese, mayonnaise, yogurt, sugary syrups, and expired spices.
The INSSPA emphasizes that "these seized quantities not only represent economic losses but also pose a real danger to the health of citizens," renewing its call to all stakeholders and professionals to strictly respect hygiene rules and storage and distribution conditions.
Furthermore, it invites consumers to be vigilant when purchasing food products and to report any infringement that may threaten their safety.
