Intensified Control Campaigns to Protect Consumer Health and Safety

As part of the intensified control campaigns aimed at countering all practices threatening consumer health and safety, the control teams of the National Food Safety Authority (INSSA), in coordination with various security forces and concerned structures, conducted several field campaigns. These campaigns resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of spoiled and unknown-origin food products.

Seizure of Spoiled Dates

The control teams from the Central Directorate successfully seized approximately 10 tons of dates (Deglet Nour) that were stored in unsanitary conditions. This quantity was intended to be transformed into paste and used in the manufacture of pastries. This massive seizure reveals real dangers threatening consumer health, given the anarchic storage method and non-compliance with sanitary conditions.

Joint Campaign with Municipal Guard and Commerce Agents

The control teams conducted a joint campaign with the Municipal Guard and Commerce agents, targeting rotisseries, restaurants, and slaughterhouses. These interventions led to the seizure of 488 kg of red meat, offal, and sheep heads that were frozen and of unknown origin. The control operations revealed that the meats were stored without respecting minimum sanitary safety conditions, including their sale without documents proving their origin or without a veterinary certificate attesting to their fitness for consumption.

Seizure of Spoiled Potatoes

The regional teams, in collaboration with the National Guard and Commerce services, seized approximately 7 tons of potatoes. Inspections revealed that this quantity was stored in unsanitary conditions, in spaces lacking hygiene and ventilation, making it unfit for consumption and subject to rapid deterioration.

Seizure of Animal Products

Unauthorized cold storage rooms were raided on an agricultural farm. Approximately 6 tons of cow and sheep legs and heads, as well as skins and tails, were seized due to the absence of sanitary and technical conditions, the state of the storage facilities, and their unknown origin.

Seizure of Spoiled Fruits and Vegetables

Another control operation in refrigerated warehouses resulted in the seizure of 1,375 tons of apples and 478 kg of dried tomatoes ("Chriha") stored in unsanitary conditions and of unknown origin.

Securing Seized Quantities and Call to Comply with Regulations

The Authority confirms that all seized quantities have been secured pending the completion of the required legal procedures for their destruction. It renews its call to merchants and professionals to comply with the regulations and laws in force, while reaffirming that it will continue its intensive control campaigns to protect consumer health and ensure the quality and safety of food products on the markets.
