Regional and Central Teams of the National Institute for Food Safety (INSSPA) Conduct Simultaneous Interventions
The regional and central teams of the National Institute for Food Safety (INSSPA), in coordination with security and judicial services, carried out simultaneous interventions in several governorates, resulting in the seizure and destruction of significant quantities of non-compliant food products that pose an immediate danger to public health.
According to a statement released today by the Institute, this operation is part of the implementation of a special program ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and the continuation of national efforts to protect consumer health and ensure food safety.
These interventions are also part of a preventive action plan developed at the central level, focusing on intensifying field controls and strictly applying the law, particularly with regard to products widely consumed during Ramadan, such as milk and its derivatives, as well as combating slaughter outside legal channels and wild storage.
Key Findings and Seizures
In the governorate of Bizerte, the central team inspected wild warehouses belonging to a company specializing in the sale of milk and its derivatives, where approximately 500 kg of non-compliant fresh cream were seized. These products were stored in barrels and cans without legal data or expiration dates and emitted foul odors. Approximately 11,000 boxes of food flavors of various types, stored in high-temperature conditions reaching 16 degrees, were also seized, resulting in the spoilage of a large number of them. The seized products were secured pending the completion of legal procedures.
Objectives and Next Steps
The INSSPA's efforts aim to ensure the safety and quality of food products, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, when consumption patterns increase. The Institute will continue to work closely with security and judicial services to prevent the circulation of non-compliant food products and protect public health.
