School Canteen Situation in Mahdia Governorate Deemed "Catastrophic"

The situation of school canteens in the Mahdia governorate is considered "more than catastrophic" by Mohamed Nasr, Secretary General of the university branch of education personnel.

Speaking today on Jawhara FM, Mohamed Nasr specified that the region has 26 school canteens, supervised by only 730 employees, most of whom are not specialized and perform multiple tasks (cleaning, surveillance, cooking), while the minimum required is at least 1,000 employees.

He emphasized that despite the continuous increase in the number of students and the creation of new structures, the staff remains insufficient. In some cases, administrative or cleaning staff had to prepare meals due to the absence of cooks for medical reasons.

The official warned of the consequences for the health of students, citing shortcomings in sanitary standards. He called on the Minister of Education to intervene urgently to ensure the safety and health of children.
