Minister of Youth and Sports Chairs Meeting with President of Tunisian Federation of School and University Sports
The Minister of Youth and Sports presided over a working session with the President of the Tunisian Federation of School and University Sports, Ms. Aida Langliz. This session was dedicated to monitoring the situation of this federation, resolving pending issues, particularly financial ones, and examining its future programs.
Giving School Sports the Place they Deserve
In fact, the place they deserve is a central one. If the state must invest, it should do so in school and university sports. Our world champion swimmers have joined an American university to prepare for the Los Angeles Olympics. It's clear, isn't it? Subsidizing clubs that will spend taxpayer money on dubious choices or those that do not respond to national sports choices and strategy is equivalent to squandering public funds.
Reforming the School and University Sports System
The Minister emphasized the need to reform the school and university sports system and restore its influence, convinced of its essential role in discovering talent and selecting promising elite players. He considers it a "breeding ground for elite sports" and a privileged incubator for the formation of champions.
A Huge Potential to be Tapped
Indeed, the mass to be worked on within this "breeding ground" is enormous. It is controlled, secure, especially for girls, under the orders of an educational and specialist staff. What remains to be done? Providing it with means, because developed nations have made this choice and given priority to this sector.
Organizing the Third Environment
This choice is also confirmed by the trend that is beginning to be explored at the level of rearranging the school environment in general. If the single session is adopted for teaching, where will these kids, young and old, go? The choice is simple: to the street or to sports halls, youth centers (to be upgraded), music, drawing, theater workshops, etc. This third environment needs to be organized.
Equipping Schools and Universities with Sports Facilities
It is not enough to express wishes, but to act to equip schools and universities with a network of lightweight, non-expensive ensembles, close to schools. The state, we assume, is able to have spaces declassified for this national strategy.
Relaunching School and University Sports Competitions
Thinking about "relaunching school and university sports competitions, prioritizing mass activities, and creating a stimulating and competitive atmosphere between neighborhoods" is a goal for which we must commit. And mentioning "developing a strategy and vision in coordination with the Tunisian Federation of Sports for All and the concerned ministries" suggests that we have understood that school and university sports are a sector that does not fall under the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Time to Act
All that remains is to act.
