26th Edition of Carthage Theater Days to Kick Off on November 22

Under the slogan "Theater is conscience and change, theater is the pulse of the street," the 26th edition of the Carthage Theater Days (JTC) will begin on Saturday, November 22, and run until Saturday, November 29, 2025. During this week, the event will offer the public a rich and varied program, alternating between Tunisian and international performances, cultural events, and professional meetings.

Opening Ceremony and Performances

This edition will open with a ceremony staged by artist Houssem Sahli, which will take place at the Opera Theater in the Chedli Klibi City of Culture, with the participation of a plethora of Tunisian actors. It will be followed by two theatrical performances:

  • The first, from Egypt, is titled "King Lear." It is performed by the great artist Yahia El Fakharany, directed by Shady Sorour, and produced by the Egyptian National Theater. It will be played in the same hall.
  • The second will be signed by the great Tunisian artist Fadel Jaïbi, who will present to the public the preview of his new work, "(The) Dream... Black Comedy," at the Le Rio hall in the capital.

Competitions and Performances

This edition will feature the participation of:

  • 12 plays in the Official Competition
  • 15 performances in the Theater of the World section
  • 16 plays presented in the Tunisian Performances section
  • 6 works in the Arab and African Performances section
  • 12 performances in the Childhood and Youth section
  • 6 amateur performances
  • 16 performances in the "Theater of Freedom" section, dedicated to the works of detainees in prisons and rehabilitation centers

Official Competition

The Official Competition includes 12 works, including two Tunisian plays and works from Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Côte d'Ivoire, and South Africa. These works will compete for seven prizes:

  • The Golden Tanit
  • The Silver Tanit
  • The Bronze Tanit
  • The Best Text Prize
  • The Best Scenography Prize
  • The Best Female Interpretation Prize
  • The Best Male Interpretation Prize

International Jury

The competing works will be judged by an international jury chaired by Tunisian Lassaad Ben Abdallah, and composed of Imed El May (Tunisia), Saâda Daâss (Kuwait), Malek Al Akoun (Algeria), Abdon Fortuné (Congo), and Thamer Al Arbid (Syria).
