Key Figures on Subsidized School Notebook Production
- Samir Moulehi, Vice‑President of the Chamber of School Notebook Manufacturers, announced that the National Paper and Pulp Company (SNCPA) has so far produced 2,500 tons of paper earmarked for the printing of subsidized school notebooks.
- This output represents about 50 % of the planned total of ≈5,000 tons.
- The manufacturing rate of the subsidized notebooks has reached 80 %, and the finished notebooks have already been distributed to wholesalers.
Distribution Plan for 2025
Moulehi stated on national radio that the distribution schedule for 23 million subsidized school notebooks is set for this year, based on an average of 10 notebooks per student. He considered this figure sufficient, especially given the availability of many other notebook types, such as thin notebooks and premium (luxury) notebooks.
Quality Concerns
According to Moulehi, the quality of the subsidized notebooks is directly linked to the age and condition of SNCPA’s machinery and equipment. He described the equipment as:
- Outdated
- Mediocre in quality
- Occasionally causing paper tears during production.
Pricing Regulations
- Price controls have been imposed on the subsidized notebooks.
- No party—neither wholesalers nor retailers—is permitted to raise the price.
- For other notebook categories, the following profit margins have been established:
- Wholesalers: 15 % margin
- Retailers: 20 %–25 % margin
Call for Responsible Consumption
In the same broadcast, Moulehi urged parents to rationalize their consumption of school supplies. He described the list of items requested by teachers as unreasonable and encouraged families to limit unnecessary purchases.
