Dr. Mohamed Rabhi, President of the National Food Safety Authority, Confirms Seizure of Over 45 Tons of Unfit Food Products
Dr. Mohamed Rabhi, President of the National Food Safety Authority, confirmed that the specific program developed as part of the preparations for the month of Ramadan has resulted in the seizure of over 45 tons of food products unfit for consumption.
During his appearance on National Radio on Wednesday, February 11, Mr. Rabhi specified that the seized quantities include approximately 20 tons of olives and variants (brines), 21 tons of various food products including spices, and 11,000 bottles of food flavorings.
The speaker emphasized that the interventions of the control brigades are no longer limited to products exposed for sale, but now encompass all stages of the food chain, from manufacturing to distribution. Thus, any infringement related to non-compliance with the cold chain or violation of storage rules is now punishable by a sanction.
He also announced the arrest of several offenders, indicating that many of them will be brought to justice. Dr. Rabhi recalled that, in addition to the seizure of goods, the law provides for administrative and criminal penalties, which can include prison sentences, as well as significant financial fines.
Furthermore, the President of the National Food Safety Authority indicated that the control teams will be reinforced with new inspectors during the current year. He specified that a recruitment competition for engineers, technicians, and veterinarians has been opened, and the results are expected to be announced soon.
