Tunisia Announces Salary Increases and Retroactive Payments for 2026

Minister of Finance Michkat Salama El Khaldi Announces Salary Hikes and Retroactive Payments for 2026

In accordance with Article 15 of the Finance Law, which governs the revaluation of salaries and pensions in the public and private sectors, the Tunisian Minister of Finance, Michkat Salama El Khaldi, has announced the payment of salary increases accompanied by retroactive payments for the first months of 2026.

During a meeting with Adib Youssef Al-Aama, Executive President of the Islamic International Finance Corporation and Secretary General of the Arab-African Commercial Bridges Program, currently on a working visit to Tunisia from May 18 to 21, 2026, the Minister emphasized the importance that President Kaïs Saïed attaches to preserving national enterprises operating in strategic sectors. She recalled the President's commitment to mobilizing all necessary means to ensure the sustainability of these structures, with a particular emphasis on maintaining their social role.

The Minister also highlighted that the Tunisian state continues to consolidate its social policy by pursuing its strategy of revaluing revenues.

For reference, Tunisia adopted a series of presidential and government decrees in late April 2026, providing for salary increases in the public and private sectors for the 2026-2028 period. These measures, now in effect, are being paid out in installments with retroactive effect from January 1.
