President of the Republic, Kais Saied, Chairs Meeting on Environmental Situation in Gabes

The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, chaired a meeting on Tuesday, November 18, at the Carthage Palace, to discuss urgent solutions to the environmental situation in the city of Gabes. The commission, appointed by the Head of State, is composed of:

  • Ali Ben Hamoud
  • Samia Ben Ali
  • Hamida Kawas
  • Rafik Aouadi
  • Noureddine Rachdi
  • Mohamed Salah Najjar
  • Mohamed Ben Charrada

According to a statement, the President emphasized that he is closely following the situation in Gabes and paid tribute to the region's inhabitants for their high level of awareness in preserving civil peace and standing alongside security forces in the face of attempts to exacerbate the situation in the city.

Criticism of Public Funds Mismanagement

The President criticized the mismanagement of public funds in the acquisition of equipment for the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) in 2018, stating that the equipment has become unusable due to corrosion and deliberate negligence.

Denouncing Attempts to Spread False Information

President Saied also denounced attempts to spread false information about the environmental situation in Gabes, indicating that the underlying motive behind these maneuvers is to silence the issue of the transfer of several public companies and establishments, disregarding the unbearable suffering of the people of Gabes and the entire country.

Reaffirming the Right to Truth and Accountability

In the face of these exposed subterfuges, the President of the Republic reaffirmed that it is the right of the Tunisian people to know the truth, to demand accountability from those responsible in accordance with the law, and to live in freedom and dignity. He promised to work towards ending the suffering of the people in all areas and regions.

Receipt of Preliminary Report and Recommendations

During the meeting, the President received a copy of the preliminary report established by the commission and urged its members to redouble their efforts to finalize the writing of the final report as soon as possible. The expected report, he recommended, should provide immediate and urgent solutions and establish a strategic and global vision for the environmental issue in the Gabes region, which should involve the region's young people.

Involving Young People in Finding Solutions

The President emphasized that these young patriots and competent individuals are capable of inventing solutions, recalling that several countries have been inspired by studies developed by Tunisians in this field.

National Liberation and Resistance to Plots

While reaffirming that Tunisia is currently waging a national liberation war on all fronts, the Head of State assured that the Tunisian people, with their high level of awareness and inflexible will, are capable of thwarting the plots being hatched against them. The Tunisian state is resistant to the rhetoric of tweets and the meager attempts orchestrated by those who have voluntarily chosen the path of treason, infidelity to the country, and the spread of false allegations, the President concluded.
