Ministry of Equipment and Housing Pursues Several Road and Interchange Projects
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing is continuing to implement several road and interchange projects, with new construction sites scheduled to launch in 2026, totaling an investment of 6.8 billion dinars, announced Khaled Latrach, Director of Major Works at the General Directorate of Bridges and Roads, on Monday, December 1, 2025.
During his intervention on National Radio, Khaled Latrach specified that 76 projects are currently underway, with a total cost of 4.2 billion dinars.
Among the main projects scheduled for 2026 are:
- The doubling of National Road No. 13 between Kasserine, Sidi Bouzid, and Sfax over 180 km, with an estimated cost of 1.45 billion dinars, including 117 km of connecting roads.
- The regional road 77 in Siliana, whose construction has received administrative approval to begin.
- The local road 899 in Gafsa over 30 km for 60 million dinars (tender launched).
- The bypasses of the cities of Zarzis and Korba, whose construction will start soon or are in the tender phase.
- The reinforcement of 189 km of numbered roads for 275 million dinars.
- The construction of certain interchanges and the development of 460 km of roads.
The road network under the ministry's jurisdiction spans 20,000 km, including 4,750 km of national roads, 6,513 km of regional roads, and 5,940 km of local roads. Rural roads account for 58,800 km, with 50% being developed and paved. The operated highways cover 743 km, excluding projects under construction or study. The ministry also oversees 3,800 artworks and hydraulic infrastructures, with regular monitoring of maintenance and control work.
Regarding the Tunis-Jilma highway, the overall progress rate has reached 33%, and its operation is scheduled for early 2027, in strict compliance with deadlines.
For the extension of the southern entrance to the capital, the work is 70% complete, and additional parts will be opened within two weeks at the level of El Mourouj, towards the El Yehoudia circular interchange. The complete completion of the project is scheduled for the end of 2026.
Finally, the regional road 27 connecting Nabeul to Kelibia, which has encountered several obstacles, will see the first section completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026, with the total completion of the project scheduled for the end of 2026.
