Normalization of Traffic and Removal of Barriers After Congestion

On Monday, October 20, 2025, Mohamed Belhaj, project manager for phases 1 and 2 of the expansion of the southern entrance to the capital, confirmed the return to normal traffic flow and the removal of barriers after the congestion recorded last Saturday. This congestion was due to drivers' lack of attention to information and signals about the new route implemented for the continuation of the second phase of the southern entrance expansion project.

Speaking by phone on the "Youm Saïd" show on National Radio, he added that despite the partial traffic diversion notice published by the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, and the installation of all necessary traffic signs, a problem occurred at the intersection leading to Bab Alioua. Many drivers were forced to drive on the far right due to inattention to the signs, and many of them hesitated.

He confirmed that traffic will remain on its old route while studying possible solutions for a new traffic diversion and intensifying communication and signage to avoid congestion. The speaker emphasized that the new parallel bridge to the old Lacania bridge is the last structure to be built as part of the second phase of the southern entrance expansion project, specifying that the progress rate of the work has reached 75%.
